Can't find a driver for your PC?

You need to find a driver for your graphics card, webcam, sound card, motherboard and cant find it, not only can't you find it, but Google returns page after page of spammy sites offering the download but failing to provide a simple download link!

Maybe you have found a driver but the actual download does not work on your machine.

ITC Processing

ITC Processing has been available on ATI graphics cards since Catalyst 9.2 though it can have a positive or negative impact depending on your display device.

Enabling ITC Processing for DTVs

ITC processing is a feature that enables display processors to use the appropriate pixel data processing algorithms based on specific content type to ensure video quality.
With ITC processing, the graphics driver enables the display to use its own video quality processing algorithms for movies played in full-screen mode on HDMI™ displays.
Note: This feature is available only for DTVs connected with HDMI cables and may not be available for all systems.

How to enable this in the ATI Catalyst Control Center

From the Graphics Settings tree, expand DTV.
Click Attributes.
Select or clear Enable ITC Processing as appropriate.
Select—Enables ITC processing for HDMI displays that are capable of the feature. When movies are played in full-screen mode, the display’s processors can be used to ensure video quality.
Clear—Disables ITC processing. Video quality is ensured by the graphics driver for all types of contents displayed.

Dolby Digital (AC3) and DTS over ATI HDMI XP

For Windows XP: If you have been unable to get AC3 or DTS passthrough via your ATI Graphics card with HDMI try this official ATI driver:

ATI Catalyst™ 9.4 HDMI Audio Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition

The Catalyst™ Software Suite states that the HDMI Audio driver is supported on the Windows Vista OS only at this stage. Its never straightforward, especially with the HDMI driver hiding on the AMD website.

Convert a gpt protective partition

I recently put a 64 bit Vista formatted Drive into my XP HTPC box and found it was unreadable and could not be formatted. Computer Management displayed the drive as a GPT Protective Partition. Unfortunately Windows XP cannot read or write this type of filesystem let alone mount the drive. A GPT disk uses the GUID partition table (GPT) disk partitioning system.

Your Options are:

Run the DOS command line "cmd" in Start - Run
Type DiskPart” at the prompt.
“list disk” will show all disks on your machine and find the Disk number you want to convert.
Change the focus to the required disk by entering the following “select disk X″ where X is the disk number you require to convert.
Entering “clean” command to remove GPT disk from the current in-focus disk by zeroing sectors or if you are using Windows Vista or 2003 server enter "convert mbr"

or Using the Windows interface

Back up or move all volumes on the basic GUID partition table (GPT) disk you want to convert into a master boot record (MBR) disk. If the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes, skip to step 2.
For more information about backing up volumes, see Related Topics.
Open Computer Management (Local).
In the console tree, click Computer Management (Local), click Storage, and then click Disk Management.
If the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes, skip to step 5. Otherwise, right-click the any volumes on the disk and then click Delete Volume.
Right-click the GPT disk that you want to change into an MBR disk, and then click Convert to MBR disk.

Ritmo USB Webcam Drivers

Ritmo are another cheap webcam manufacturer who seem to make it hard for us to download simple drivers.

Ritmo have some of these drivers on their ftp site when it is working. If not grab them here. They are the latest ones I could find. This one is for my mother, who like most people, need to install a driver from time to time after misplacing the install disc. (3211 is yours Mum)

Vimicro USB Webcam Driver

These Vimicro webcams can be had on ebay for around $15.

If you are anything like me, losing drivers for older hardware comes naturally. After scouring Google high and low I managed to find these working drivers.

Most search engines usually point to various sites who want to charge for this driver download. Here it is, no bull attached. Enjoy: Vimicro USB Webcam Driver 301

The detector will download the correct driver for what ever Vimicro webcam model you have - Very handy.

All files as always, have been scanned with the latest version of Avast.

I'll keep updating this page as it seems to be a popular google search.

No audio in Soundmax

Just recently fixed a computer for someone that was doing my head in for a couple of hours.

The system was based on an m2npv-vm Asus motherboard with an onboard Soundmax High Definition audio chip. The problem? Windows xp was not detecting any sound devices, regardless how may times different revisions of the soundmax driver package was installed. I tried various fixes - all producing no sound. Again a massive Google search was undertaken with numerous results - A heap of users with the same issue.

Finally stumbled onto these two links: Softwaretipsandtricks which linked to an Annoyances.org post.

The fix: (quoted from above links and laid out for easy readability)

From Device Manager (be sure to select View/Show hidden devices), find the 'ISAPNP Read Data Port' device from the System Devices list. (Of note: once I successfully repaired this problem, this device no longer appears.)
Right click the ISAPNP device, and select "Update Driver"
Select "Install from a list or specific location"
Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install."
The step I left out on prior trials: UNSELECT "Show Compatible Hardware"
Be sure that "(Standard System Devices)" is selected under Manufacturer.
Under Model, scroll down until you see "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator". Select this item, and select "Next>".
You will receive some frightening error message that you should probably disregard.
Complete the installation of the driver. You will see your device list magically change before your eyes. The other PNP devices will mysteriously become enabled and active. If not, restart.

I couldn't find the original source to this fix but "Cheers Mate!" you saved me a reformat. The PC was recently loaded with an older version of the Nokia PC suite, this may of been the culprit in this case.
